Popular Culture and Happiness

Happiness is entwined with Popular Culture. While reading a magazine about fashion or celebrities, it brings happiness to people because it takes them to a place where they can fantasize a better life than their own. Humans constantly desire what they cannot have. Happiness is temporary and always changing just like pop culture is always changing. An example would be the clothing style of leggings. Back in the 1980’s leggings were the “cool” things to wear. Like all fads that bring change, leggings went away. In the last year or so, leggings have come back in style. Change happens when people are no longer happy with something that is not new anymore. Take cell phones for an example. Every year cell phone companies make a new model to replace the old. Having something brand new makes people happy these days because it shows that you are on top or better than others.

  1. I agree with you that pop culture and the current things (fashion) that make people are always changing, thus resulting in the happiness of new things. However, I think this happiness is closer to natural happiness, because it only makes us happy for a little while and then the happiness is gone. Overtime, it becomes synthetic because people get used to the clothes they have in their closet. Or, if you're like me, you get used to the cell phone you've had since you were a sophomore. But, I wouldn't call my feelings towards my phone happiness in anyway. My dinosaur angers me on a daily basis.
